General Wang Shu-Ming, the 2nd Commander-in-Chief (term of office: March 14, 1952 to July 1, 1957)
General Wang was born in Zhucheng, Shandong, in December 1904. General Wang had a strong character, and was a quiet and hardworking person. Motivated by his determination to do something great, he went to Guangdong at the age of 20 and became a cadet in the class of the 1st Term of Whampoa Military Academy. He furthered his studies in aviation after graduation and enrolled in Class 1 of Guangdong Aviation School and was sent to the aviation institute of the former Soviet Union and the advanced class of the National Aviation School. He received advanced training at the Joint Warfare Department of the National Defense University and held the position as a tutor of the aviation school, commander of the 2nd squadron, director of education and training of the officers, NCO and staff schools, route commander, deputy director-general of the Aviation Committee, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force General Command Headquarters. General Wang was promoted the Commander-in-Chief of the ROCAF in 1952, and the Joint Chief of the General Staff in 1957.
General Wang has been a tutor of the ROCAF for years and has trained a large number of outstanding air force pilots. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, General Wang commanded the air force fighting on the front line of western Yunnan, western Henan, western Hubei, and the Central Plains of China in person and demonstrated the gallantry and distinguished performance of the ROCAF. After the war, General Wang also commanded the ROCAF in pursuing air battles in northeastern China, Beijing and northern China, northern Shanxi, northern Suzhou, Shandong and Henan in the civil war. Nonetheless, General Wang was also an outstanding administrator of the ROCAF and has established proper organization and system in the administration of the force.
General Wang was decorated with the ROC State Medal, Cauldron Medal, Loyalty and Gallantry Medal, Sky Command Medal, Great Harmony Medal, Loyalty and Service Medal, Heritage, Auspicious Star Medal, Recovery Medal, Recovery Medal, Land Sea and Air Award, Recovery of Mainland Award, Crimson Bow Award, Power Declaration Award, US Citation, Liberty Award,Medal of Honour of Iran/Irag, and White Elephant Medal of Thailand.
