On September 15, the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing celebrated its 80th Anniversary at a ceremony presided over by Maj. Gen. Liao. In addition to commending outstanding service members, the event also featured multiple equipment on display for the public, showcasing the ROCAF’s full might. Five IDF fighters also flew by in a V-formation, demonstrating their piloting skills.

On September 15, the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing celebrated its 80th Anniversary at Tainan Air Base. The event invited both service members and their families and featured commendation ceremonies, keynote speeches, various pieces of equipment on display, and a flyby by IDF fighters. The day saw service members and civilians alike come together to celebrate the unit’s proud and glorious history.
In addition to commending outstanding service members, the event also recognized all members for their excellence, as well as winners of physical competitions, highlighting their achievements in their duties, physical fitness, and various other fields. Joshua Huang was also invited to give a speech titled “The Eternal Military Spirit and Transforming Lives”. The speech was based on his personal experiences and encouraged everyone to remain steadfast in the face of adversity and overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
Crowds amazed by IDF flyover
As the grand finale, 5 IDF fighters zoomed by in a V-formation at an altitude of a thousand feet before landing. The fighters also demonstrated their coordination and teamwork by performing an elephant walk. Several pieces of equipment were also on display, such as an IDF fighter carrying the domestically built Sky Sword II missile and a vehicle armed with the Sky Sword I air defense missile system.
Maj. Gen. Liao noted that the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing has been tasked with guarding the nation’s skies since its formation. Thanks to the expertise and professionalism of its members, the unit has been able to swiftly respond to any threats to the nation throughout the years. In addition to its distinguished history, the unit’s legacy continues to inspire all members to strive for excellence in the future and to serve the nation loyally and courageously.
