To ensure the safe return of civilians stranded on the Matsu Islands to the island of Taiwan, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) deployed C-130H transport aircraft from the 6th Composite Wing to Nangan Airport to transport them home.
The deployed C-130H transport aircraft transported 210 people.
Due to the Matsu Islands’ recent rough weather, a number of flights and ferries were canceled. Thus, the Transportation and Tourism Bureau of the Lienchang County Government and the Nangan Airport turned to the MND for assistance in evacuating civilians. The MND responded by deploying C-130H transport aircraft, evacuating 210 people in two rounds, each consisting of three sorties.
During the operation, a ROC Army transport company stationed on the Matsu Islands assisted civilians in registering and boarding the aircraft. Despite the poor weather conditions, the pilots managed to take off and land safely thanks to their excellent skills. To express their gratitude, the civilians on board the aircraft gave the pilots a thumbs-up over the sound of roaring engines, exemplifying how “the military loves the people, the people respect the military”.
