On April 7, the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee of the Legislative Yuan visited Zhihang Air Force Base in Taitung, thanking the ROCAF pilots there for their vigilant defense of the nation’s skies. The delegation also visited the Taitung Branch of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital to better understand the medical capacity of rural areas, demonstrating their resolve to ensure the health of local residents.
On April 7, Huang Jen, Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee convener, led a delegation consisting of legislators Lu Hsien-yi and Lin Chien-chi, along with Taitung County Council Speaker Wu Hsiu-hua, to visit Zhihang Air Force Base. They were accompanied by LTG Yang, Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Defense (MND), and Lt. Gen. Lee, Air Force Chief of Staff. Following their visit, the delegation headed to Kakawasan to discuss with local residents ways to prevent and reduce noise from the air force base. Such efforts are meant to ensure that the well-being of local residents is also considered alongside the needs of combat training.
During their visit to Zhihang Air Force Base, the delegation thanked the 7th Tactical Fighter Wing for defending Taiwan’s eastern skies, commending them for their vigilant defense of the nation. The delegation later stated that the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee would support the military through direct action, ensuring it could persist in its preparations.
At a meeting with local residents, the Department of Resource Planning updated residents on the progress of the amendment of the Regulations on the Noise Prevention of Military Airfields and the Compensation Allocation and listened to their feedback. The MND stated that it would incorporate feedback provided by residents into its planning, ensuring that the well-being of local residents would also be considered alongside the needs of combat training.
In addition, the delegation also visited the Taitung Branch of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, where they listened to briefs by various units, and also visited the Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic, day care center, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Hemodialysis Center, and other clinics to better understand the local medical capacity. The delegation acknowledged the hospital for its efforts towards improving medical services, facilities, and long-term care.
