On May 28, Air Force Commander-in-Chief General Hou-Chi Hsiung inspected units in the Taipei region accompanied by various department heads including Inspector General Major-General Huang and Sergeant Supervisor Chief Master Sergeant Liu. In addition to listening to unit briefings, learning about key current missions and checking on the living conditions, he also personally hosted a town hall meeting during which he recognized the officers and men for their dedication to duty, monitoring of surrounding developments, as well as application of intelligence gathering and surveillance capabilities. He encouraged the cadre to look after their troops, practice happy leadership, as well as build up team rapport and cohesion.
During the town hall meeting with the officers and men, CINC Hsiung started by greeting the men then asking them one by one about their life in the unit, and arrangements for taking leave. He checked to see if the accommodation facilities needed improvement and whether there were any difficulties. He then issued 3 directives based on important recent cases: “make good use of club activities and reach out to your comrades," “obey barrack rules on gender to prevent harassment," “prohibition against drinking on base and elimination of drunk driving off-base.” CINC Huang emphasized the need for “relentless pursuit of excellence” in combat training, development of core competencies, and enforcement of military discipline. He also pointed to apathy as the greatest enemy of teamwork. The development of clubs based on the interests of officers and men will cultivate a harmonious atmosphere within the unit. The creation of a “gender equal” environment through the practice of empathy will also help build unit cohesion and forge a quality team for defending national security.
