Air Force CinC General Hou-Chi Hsiung Praises Efforts to Maintain Combat Readiness through Effective Epidemic Prevention

2020/04/03

Air Force Commander-in-Chief General 2nd Class Hou-Chi Hsiung traveled to Penghu region on April 2 accompanied by various department heads such as Major-General Lu, Director of Combat Readiness and Training, to inspect the combat readiness and epidemic prevention measures of local units as part of the “direct supervision” strategy. During the inspection, he used examples to emphasize the importance of enforcing proper military discipline in protecting the health of officers and men.

CinC Hsiung started by attending a briefing given by the local unit on obstacles during which he asked about combat readiness and equipment maintenance, checked the planning of off-site operations and the inventory of medical supplies. He directed the commanding officer to fully implement the epidemic prevention measures issued by the Central Epidemic Command Center such as daily temperature screening for everyone, thorough disinfection operations, splitting of cabins and assignments, as well as reminding subordinates to stay away from crowded venues with poor ventilation, and avoid family and friends that recently returned overseas while one leave. The measures will keep the barracks clear of disease and ensure the combat readiness of the unit.

After the briefing, CinC Hsiung visited the guard room and dining hall to inspect the unit living conditions in person. He checked with the airmen on duty their roster and leave arrangements while also commending them for staying alert at their posts. This was followed by the issuing of five directives, namely: “full urine analysis to combat drugs,” “enforce gender rules and separation on base,” improve work discipline through thorough personnel evaluation,” “leverage social networking software to monitor mental well-being,” and “re-affirmation of prohibition on drink-driving and need for road safety.” He encouraged the officers to maintain a positive, happy leadership atmosphere, cultivate a sound organizational culture, and strive to become an elite, professional team for national defense.
