1953-1958
On April 16, 1953, the B-25 bomber-equipped 4th Squadron was transferred to the 8th Air Group. Later that year, on July 1, the 11th Tactical Bomber Group of the 3rd Air Wing, equipped with P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, was transferred to the 2nd Air Wing. From August 1, 1955, to August 30, 1956, the 2nd Air Wing was refitted with F-86 Sabre fighters and tasked with combat readiness operations. On September 24, 1958, F-86 Sabre fighters of the 2nd Air Wing achieved the first air-to-air kill using AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles over Wenzhou Bay. During the skirmish, nine MiG-17 fighters were destroyed and three were damaged.
1957-2001
On October 1, 1957, the 8th Light Bomber Group was reorganized into the 8th Mixed Wing and was later disbanded on August 1 of the following year.
On June 16, 1960, the 2nd Air Wing was reorganized as the 2nd Tactical Fighter Wing, and the 11th Tactical Bomber Group was reorganized as the 11th Tactical Fighter Wing. Both air wings continued to operate the F-86D all-weather interceptor, the F-100 Super Sabre fighter, and the F-104 Starfighter interceptor.
In May 1997, the 2nd Tactical Air Wing received its first Mirage 2000 fighters, with an official ceremony held on June 2 of that year. On December 1, 1997, the 41st Squadron was completely refitted with the Mirage 2000 fighter. On November 26, 1998, a ceremony was held for the reception of the 60th Mirage 2000 fighter as well as an inspection of the newly-formed 42nd Squadron. On May 10, 2001, the Mirage 2000-equipped units were officially established.
2004
In response to organizational changes under the ROC Armed Forces streamlining program, the 11th Air Group was disbanded on November 11, 2004, and the 41st and 42nd Tactical Fighter Squadrons and the 48th Transition Training Squadron were established.
2005 to present
On July 1, 2005, the Taoyuan Command was reorganized into the Taoyuan Air Force Base Service Company and transferred under the command of the 2nd Tactical Fighter Wing. However, due to the changes made under the ROC Armed Forces streamlining program on January 1, 2007, the Taoyuan Air Force Base Service Company was later transferred to the Naval Aviation Command. Regardless, all units continue to honor their glorious heritage.
